Gulf’s next challenge: Aging oil platforms

Stanolind’s Oil & Gas Company’s West Cameron 45-A platform is, according to government records, the oldest functioning platform in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico. On Dec. 4, 2009, a severely corroded pipe connecting the structure to a high-pressure gas well gave way during routine maintenance, releasing explosive natural gas into the air. Workers were finally able to shut down the well. Aging platforms could prove to be the Gulf’s next challenge. Full article

Jindal challenges constitutionality of health bill

Gov. Jindal and Attorney General Buddy Caldwell are questioning the constitutionality of a provision in the federal health-care legislation approved Sunday by the U.S. House. Jindal asked Caldwell to look into joining several other states that are forming a coalition to challenge the use of the commerce clause to force people to purchase insurance. Full Article.
