B.R. ranks low on quality-of-life list

Baton Rouge ranks No. 56 in a list for quality of life in the 67 largest U.S. cities. The report, by Portfolio.com/bizjournals, looked at 20 categories, including economic health, education, cost of living, traffic and housing. Baton Rouge finished between Las Vegas and Detroit, but ahead of New Orleans, which was No. 65. Full article.  

 

Planned Subdivision Raises Flooding Fears

Residents met recently with developers & a city Engineering Dept. Representative regarding a planned new subdivision off Lower Third Street to discuss the proposal and potential flooding issues that would come along with it. Full Article.

 

Home-Ownership Program for Low-To-Moderate Income Families

Alexandria will use federal stimulus money to take over adjudicated properties and develop new homes to be purchased by low- to moderate-income families. The city hopes to acquire 53 lots to donate to the Alexandria Urban Renewal Association, a nonprofit entity which the council approved Tuesday night. Full Article.
