Duke survey indicates hiring will continue to grow

A recent Duke University Fuqua School of Business survey indicated that confidence among U.S. chief financial officers rose to its highest point in a year and companies expect to increase hiring for full-time jobs by 2.1 percent over the next year.   Full article

 

LA tax breaks cut liabilities by $4.8 billion

A recent State of LA audit indicated that individual and business tax breaks cut tax liabilities by $4.8 billion over six years. Businesses received tax cuts decreasing their tax liabilities by 55 percent from 2005 to 2010. Full article

 

LABI officials eager to work with business-friendly LA Legislature

In a recent CENLA Chamber of Commerce luncheon, LA Assoc of Business and Industry (LABI) officials indicated that they look forward to working with a "business-friendly" state Legislature. Some of the initiatives LABI supports include the creation of medical provider networks for workers' compensation cases and changing the way claims are disputed and beneficiaries are disqualified and the creation of a Workers Compensation Review Board for appeals.  Full article.  

 

LA Assoc of Business and Industry Legislative Issues Conference set for March 5

On March 5, the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce will host the annual LA Association of Business and Industry Legislative Issues Conference at the Best Western Conference Center in Alexandria. Seminar to focus on incentives, quality jobs

The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning and Development District are co-sponsoring a LA Economic Development Business Incentives Seminar and Clinic for Quality Jobs and Enterprise Zone on March 1. The focus of the seminar is learning how to take advantage of the state's financial incentives provided through LED. CPAs may earn Continuing Education credits for attending.   Full article.

 

Youth Challenge program gains national recognition

Nine cadets from the Louisiana National Guard's Youth Challenge Program recently visited Washington to attend a gala celebrating the program at the 34 sites across the country. The 22-week residential program provides educational, leadership and life-skill training to at-risk youths. Full article

 

Third Street Market in Leesville to be open seven days a week

Starting in March, the Third Street Market in Leesville will become more than just a Saturday attraction. It will be home to vendors seven days a week, 365 days a year. Local produce growers and shop owners will team up with civic and church organizations to provide a bevy of opportunities to get local products at reasonable prices. Full article

Army continues its green mission to reach sustainability

Fort Polk agencies have their own programs and aim to reach their goal of sustainability. To do this, they have multiple programs in operation, including a white paper recycling program that is expected to grow and accept more than just white paper in the future.  Full article.
