Nucor receives permit from LA DEQ
Nucor says it has been awarded an air-quality permit from the LA Dept of Environmental Quality, clearing a significant hurdle in the decision-making process for a new plant. In addition to St. James parish, the company is also considering Brazil as a possible location. According to the North Carolina-based company, the initial phase of the plant would employ 500 people with an average salary of $75,000. Full Article.
V-Vehicle Co renews plant lease in Ouachita Parish
V-Vehicle Co. recently renewed its lease at the plant in Ouachita Parish where it plans to build new cars if the company can secure more than $320 million in low-interest federal loans to finance the project. "We remain committed to building great cars in northeast Louisiana." Full Article.
Jindal proposes $65M for Nucor project
Gov. Bobby Jindal says he's proposing the state set aside $65 million in its annual construction budget for a possible $2 billion pig iron plant in St. James Parish by steelmaker Nucor Corp. Amid concerns about the economy and the cost of any carbon legislation that may emerge from Congress, Nucor has refrained from making the decision on where it will build a plant that produces a raw ingredient for steel. Bruce Foods Corp. Announces Plant Expansion in New Iberia
Gov. Bobby Jindal and Bruce Foods Corp. President and CEO J.S. "Si" Brown announced Bruce Foods will expand one of its two Louisiana-based plants. The expansion represents an overall capital investment of $5 million, will create 43 new jobs and approximately 112 new indirect jobs. Full Article.
Shreveport's Hummer plant gets temporary reprieve
Word recently arrived in Shreveport that a fleet company ordered 849 new H3s and H3Ts, giving the plant a reprieve from a scheduled shutdown. The plant will be at full production during the batch build. Workers also learned some employees would get temporary loan of one of six new GM vehicles, part of a program called the GM Vehicle Plant Tour, designed around the premise that personal, word-of-mouth testimonials are the best way to persuade consumers to try and buy new products. Boise Cascade Plant Shut Down Impacts 130 Workers in Oakdale

Chopin plywood plant expanding, adding 40 jobs
At a town hall meeting of employees with guests U.S. Reps. Rodney Alexander and John Fleming Thursday, Roy O. Martin Lumber company officials talked about a multi-million dollar expansion to the Martco plywood plant in Chopin. The centerpiece of the $10 million project is a fifth dryer, which will cost $6 million to install. The additional dryer is expected to raise the plant's production capacity from just over 400 million square feet a year to 500 million.
