Blacks own more businesses
The Census Bureau recently released its nation report on black-owned businesses in the US, and LA has the fourth highest percentage of African-American-owned firms of any state. The positive news is that the rate of black business ownership nationwide increased at triple the national rate between 2002 and 2007, but black business ownership still lagged well behind the black percentage of the adult population. LA census filings lower than 2000
U.S. Census Bureau data for LA indicates that 62% percent returned their 2010 census forms by mail. Residents who have not mailed back their census forms by now will receive a visit from a census worker as early as May 1. Full Article.
2010 Census Could be Costly for Louisiana
Lawmakers, parish presidents, demographers and political analysts are concerned about the accuracy of the 2010 Census, because the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that LA is one of only two states to suffer overall population loss. Part of LA’s loss is what is known as “the Katrina effect,” when people left New Orleans and moved to other parishes and states.
