Chopin plywood plant expanding, adding 40 jobs

At a town hall meeting of employees with guests U.S. Reps. Rodney Alexander and John Fleming Thursday, Roy O. Martin Lumber company officials talked about a multi-million dollar expansion to the Martco plywood plant in Chopin. The centerpiece of the $10 million project is a fifth dryer, which will cost $6 million to install. The additional dryer is expected to raise the plant's production capacity from just over 400 million square feet a year to 500 million.

Construction begins immediately and should be finished by early spring 2010. The expanded operation should add about 40 jobs to the plant's work force of 630. The plant, which had a $100 million expansion in 2007, runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Full Article
