ArtWalk starts at 4 p.m. April 15, 2011

Visitors to the annual spring ArtWalk, hosted by the Arts Council of Central LA and the City of Alexandria, will likely hear the ring, ring of Alexandria's only trolley, the Spirit of Alexandria. The Arts Council extended the footprint of ArtWalk to include the Arna Bontempts African American Museum, The T.R.E.E. House Children's Museum and Emmanuel Baptist Church.   Full article.   

 

Rapides Parish Library - Boyce Branch Book Club

Meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:30pm-7:00pm. About every eight to ten months, books are selected.

New Art, New Director, New and Improved Gallery – What Could Be Better?

The Alexandria Museum of Art opens two new exhibits on January 15, 2009, and will be the first to display José Torres-Tama's "New Orleans Free People of Color and Their Legacy". Joseph Appalucci's "Stops Along a Circle" retrospective collection will be the first to hang in the third floor galleries since flooding in June. Full Article.

 

Rapides Symphony Orchestra: Heralding the Holidays

One of Central Louisiana’s favorite holiday traditions is coming soon. The Rapides Symphony Orchestra – featuring its outstanding brass players – will present “Heralding the Holidays” on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in downtown Alexandria.

 

As in years past, this concert will include a special guest appearance by a visitor from the North Pole, a sing-along and lots of other surprises that the whole family will enjoy.

LSUA Hosts Award-Winning Play Written By LA Native

LSUA’s Empty Space Players will perform "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches." LA Native Tony Kushner wrote the play, which HBO adapted for TV in 2003. Full Article

New Theater Company Opens in Alexandria

There’s a new theater company in Alexandria. Actors’ Repertory Theatre will present "The Big Bang," a two-man musical this weekend on the Hearn Stage of the Kress Theater in the Rapides Foundation building. Full Article

 

Helping Small Businesses & the Arts

Small business building is at the heart of the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation,  which gave $557,000 to about 250 people, nonprofits and businesses last year. This year it gave $284,000, and is working on a second round of awards for early this month.
