Port Barre festival gets cracklin

Pig skin: It not only provides America with the material — and the monicker — for the ball in one of its most popular sports, it also inspired an entire festival. This weekend marks the 25th anniversary of the annual Port Barre Cracklin' Festival, a small-town Louisiana festival at its finest. The nonprofit Port Barre Lions Club holds the Cracklin' Festival as its major fundraiser and donates all festival proceeds to the Louisiana Eye Foundation in New Orleans and the Lions Camp for Crippled Children in Leesville. LSUA Christens New Athletic Facilities Feb 2, 2010

Pineville's E.M. Smith Wins National Junior Olympics Event

Ten year old E.M. Smith finished first in the national Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship ten-and-under division in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, December 12.
