Free workshops offered in Alexandria Week of April 26

Two free training workshops are set for the week of April 26 in Alexandria. Powerful Grant Writing Using Logic Models is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27, and Social Networking And Your Nonprofit workshop is set for 9 a.m. to noon April 29. Registration is required. Full Article.   

 

More nonprofits using text-messaging campaigns to raise money

The response to the American Red Cross’ text-messaging campaign for Haiti Relief showed that text messaging can be an effective tool for nonprofit fundraising. Information from GuideStar showed that, for the first time in the U.S., following the Haiti earthquake, text messaging ranked alongside Web sites and telephone numbers as a primary giving medium. Wall Street Journal: Hit by a drop in donations and government funding in the wake of a deep recession, nonprofits are undergoing a painful restructuring, including mergers, acquisitions, collaborations, cutbacks and closings. Full Article.
 

 

Disney Offers Free Entry to 1 Million Volunteers

Disney is offering a free day's admission to 1 million guests who complete a day of volunteer work next year. The "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" program will provide certified volunteers with a one-day ticket to any park at Disneyland or Walt Disney in 2010. Full Article

Community Development Works, a program of The Rapides Foundation, in conjunction with The Urban Institute recently published the Profile of Central Louisiana Nonprofit Organizations, a comprehensive look at the Central Louisiana nonprofit sector.
