Moret Announces Blue Ocean Study Results

In a speech to the Baton Rouge Rotary club, Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Stephen Moret described the results of his Department's Blue Ocean Industry study. The Baton Rouge Business Report quotes Moret as saying that a major issue for economic development is the state's reliance on industries where growth is not projected.

Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Stephen Moret made a series of appearances in Central Louisiana yesterday and today, highlighted by a speech at the Rotary Club of Alexandria at noon today.

 

 

Tax Incentives and Job Creation

Business Week reports, "States are doling out billions to woo companies and revive local economies. But their incentives may be undermining America's recovery plan." The article claims that states have given a record $50 billion in tax breaks in the past year. Arthur J. Rolnick, vice president and research director for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, says the the increase in tax breaks "undermines the economic union, and it misallocates resources.
