Becoming a Work Ready Community follows an industry-driven, community-based model that assesses job seekers’ skills and provides a support system for closing those skills gaps. Some communities in Central Louisiana began the certification initiative as early as 2014 and are now deepening their penetration into the use ACT NCRC as a primary tool for economic development success.
The process for certification brings the community together as a team. ACT has led the national effort and offers a yearlong executive training program—the ACT Work Ready Communities Academy—that guides each team through the successful startup and deployment of certified ACT Work Ready Communities initiatives.
The teams in Central Louisiana have consisted of leadership from business and industry, policymakers, educators and economic developers.
