Alexandria-based Manchac Technologies, LLC is celebrating the sale of its 100th DOSIS prescription-filling robot. These innovative robots help pharmacies serving nursing homes, group homes, and prisons. With more than 80 robots installed from Hawaii to Maine across the United States, Manchac's 100th DOSIS sale is a landmark event for a company that was a start-up in 2006.

Manchac President and co-founder Monroe Milton said, "our DOSIS product has quickly become the benchmark for accuracy and cost-effectiveness in institutional pharmacy operations. It has been an exciting journey as part of the Manchac team growing both our product and our company to a position of industry leadership."

Roughly the size of a typical vending machine, the DOSIS robot helps pharmacies more accurately and efficiently perform the tedious, error-prone tasks of counting, filling, and labeling prescriptions. Requiring minimal human intervention throughout the day, DOSIS typically automates thirty to fifty percent of the daily pharmacy production and allows pharmacy staff to focus on the unique needs of their customers.

With forty employees, Manchac builds the DOSIS product in their 12,000 sq ft operation in the Central Louisiana Business Incubator. Manchac's team includes a technical service call center and field service technicians to provide on-going support and maintenance for deployed DOSIS units. The manufacturing process requires roughly six months to purchase, receive, and assemble the 3,000 raw components before finished robots are ready to deploy to pharmacies. U.S.-based suppliers produce all but a handful of the DOSIS parts. Manchac's hardware and software engineers developed the machine vision-based pill dispensing technology (patent-pending) at the heart of the DOSIS product, and these engineers continue to innovate and expand the functionality of this product.

According to Manchac Vice President and co-founder Randall Murphy, "we built a true product development company in Louisiana to capitalize on a need in an underserved segment of a national pharmacy market.
