"In addition to its charming small towns, Grant Parish also takes a bit of all the different features from Louisiana topography—hills and flatlands, rivers and lakes, farmland and piney woods—to create a varied wonderland for outdoor   recreation. The Kisatchie National Forest offers camping, swimming, hiking and fishing at its Stuart Lake site near Pollock. The Colfax Recreation Area has overnight camping sites, picnic pavilions and a marina right on the banks of the Red River. The historic Fairmont Plantation located just outside the town is now a bed and breakfast cloistered by century-old pecan trees, and its Pecan House is a regional retail destination for nuts, oils and jellies. The Louisiana Pecan Festival draws large crowds to downtown Colfax for a three-day celebration in November, and in April, folks trek to Pollock for the Grant Dogwood Festival with its parade, arts and crafts, vendors and family-oriented entertainment."
