LA employment outlook best in nation
La’s Economic Development recently announced that Manpower Inc.'s Employment Outlook Survey indicates LA employers expect to hire at an "active pace" during the first quarter of 2011. Manpower stated La's statewide employment outlook is the nation's best for the first quarter of 2011, and the Baton Rouge metro area's employment outlook is the best in the country for a metropolitan statistical area, or MSA. Which companies are boosting spending and hiring?
With U.S. companies sitting on an estimated $1.8 trillion in cash, it raises the question: Why aren't they deploying more of their hoard to expand their businesses? Although capital spending in the U.S. is up 12 percent since the lows of early 2009, it's still running below the first quarter of 2008. Plans for full-time hires in 4Q exceed plans for layoffs
A survey of more than 4,000 U.S. business executives shows that 11% expect to hire full-time, professional-level employees in the fourth quarter. Eighty-six percent of respondents expressed some confidence in growth prospects, up slightly from the 85% who were somewhat optimistic in the third quarter. Full Article.

Union Tank Car recently announced that it will hire new workers for its Alexandria facility, and noted that its growth will depend on the economy’s recovery. The Alexandria plant currently has approximately 270 workers, and plans to hire about 80 to 100 more. Full Article.
Louisiana Boat Builder Plans To Expand Payroll
Caddo Manufacturing, which builds electric boats and land vehicles, recently indicated that as work picks up, so will the number of hires, with the possibility of at least a hundred more jobs over the next several months. Full Article.

Chase Offers Small Business Borrowers Incentives to Hire
This is new: A bank offering companies incentives to hire. JP Morgan Chase recently announced that small businesses that open new business lines of credit could reduce their interest rates by .5 percent for each new hire by the end of the year, up to a 1.5 percent discount on credit lines of up to $250,000. Customers with existing credit lines can get the discounted rates for hiring if they increase their lines by $10,000. Behind the move is competition to grab the best business customers from a diminished pool of creditworthy borrowers. Full Article.
