Saints get new defense coordinator: Spagnuolo

Steve Spagnuolo, former coach for the St. Louis Rams, recently s agreed to take over as defensive coordinator for with the Saints. Before going to St. Louis, Spagnuolo had top 10 defenses with the Giants in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. His 2007 defense led the NFL with 53 sacks and the 2008 unit was sixth in the league with 42.  Full article

 

Saints sign ten players for 2012

The New Orleans Saints recently announced that they signed ten players to futures contracts for the 2012 season. Six were members of the practice squad when the Saints lost their post-season game with San Francisco.  Full article.

 

Saints coach Sean Payton confident Brees will return to Saints

Saints Coach Sean Payton recently indicated that free agency will be challenging for the Saints, but said that the idea of Drew Brees leaving the team is “far fetched.” Other key free agents include cornerback Tracy Porter, receiver Robert Meachem, defensive tackles Aubrayo Franklin and Shaun Rogers, and linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar. New Orleans will need to replace Gregg Williams, who will join St. Louis.   Full article.

 

Saints slam Detroit – travel to San Francisco to play 49ers

Despite a rocky start that included two fumbles, the Saints regrouped to bet Detroit 45-28. The Saints are still undefeated at home, and now travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers on Saturday, Jan 14, where they will play at Candlestick Park. Full article.

 

Saints’ postseason begins

This year, with a host of new records, the 2011 Saints just might be better than they were when they won the Super Bowl. The reason: Their 7,474 offensive yards set a new league mark, Drew Brees broke Marino's record, and Darren Sproles' rushing, receiving and kick-off returns established a new NFL single-season best record. Their true test, however, will occur on Saturday, Jan. 7, the Saints face Detroit in New Orleans for their first post-season playoff game. Full article.

Saints “Breeze” past Minnesota, 42-20

Drew Brees and a determined Saints defense routed the Minnesota Vikings 42-20. Brees’ 412 yards and five touchdowns led the surging Saints to their sixth win in a row, keeping the Saints two games ahead of the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints play Atlanta next week in New Orleans.   Full article

 

Unselfish receivers boost to Saints passing game

This year, perhaps we can all take a lesson from the Saints offense—it’s all about “we” not “me.” This year, the stereotypical “diva” receiver just won’t make it in New Orleans’ offense, because Drew Brees spreads the ball around too much and often throws to other plays who are open. Drew Brees: “A lot of the receivers have a similar personality…They’re all unselfish players..They all push and motivate each other, even if it’s quietly.”   Full article.

 

Saints playing for seed, bye

The Saints are currently tied with San Francisco for the No. 2 playoff seed in the NFC, which comes with a bye in the first round of playoffs. New Orleans has already clinched its third-straight playoff berth, and—for the first time—have at least 10 wins in three straight seasons. Their goal:“We need this win. I think it’s enough motivation for us to go out and handle business.”   Full article

 

Saints down Lions for 4th straight win

The Drew Brees show aired once again as the New Orleans Saints beat the Detroit Lions in the Superdome, garnering their fourth straight win. The Saints now hold a two-game lead over Atlanta, with four games left in the season. Full article.
