LED Secretary Stephen Moret Re: House Appropriations Committee Amendments Cutting $81.8 Million of existing Mega-Projects Funds

Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret issued the following statement on the impact of the proposed cut to the Mega-Project Development Fund: "…Thanks to policy reforms implemented by Gov. Jindal and the Louisiana Legislature over the last few years, we now have the strongest pipeline of mega projects that our state has ever had. Louisiana has been selected as a finalist state for 14 high-potential mega-projects, most of which will select a final site in the next two to four months. Collectively, these projects could produce more than 9,000 direct jobs and 16,500 indirect jobs, for a total potential job impact of roughly 25,500 new jobs in Louisiana. The companies involved are considering sites in virtually every region of Louisiana, including Lafayette, Shreveport/Bossier, Monroe, Alexandria, Southwest Louisiana, Baton Rouge and the New Orleans area…”     Read entire statement

Site Selection  magazine announced its 2010 Competitiveness Awards, which recognizes state-level economic development group excellence. Site Selection ranked Louisiana Economic Development the No. 1 state economic development agency in the country. Blade Dynamics hires at N.O. Michoud Assembly facility

LA Economic Dev recently announced that Blade Dynamics Ltd. will begin hiring 40 technical operators at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Blade Dynamics has committed to create 600 new direct jobs by 2015 with an average annual salary of approximately $48,000, plus benefits. Full Article.  

 

Myriant Technologies to construct sustainable specialty chemical plant

Gov. Jindal joined Myriant Technologies’ CEO to announced that Myriant Technologies will soon begin building a new 392,000-square-foot plant at the Port of Lake Providence that will be the world's largest bio-based succinic acid plant. The project will create 176 new direct and indirect jobs in the area and represent a capital investment of approximately $80 million.  Full article.

Moret: Haynesville Shale could boost chemical projects

LED head Stephen Moret recently indicated that, in addition to creating wealth in the Shreveport area, the Haynesville Shale, which could be one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the nation, could help lead to more industrial investment in south. Moret says the shale play has unleashed massive amounts of natural gas at competitive and relatively stable prices, and there are possible projects in the works now for LA that were off the table a couple years ago. Atwood Bakery on LED’s Advisory Council that will focus on enhancing small business competitiveness

LED recently established the LED Small Business Advisory Council, which is made up of a diverse group of small business owners, and will advise LED on issues affecting the competitiveness of small businesses in LA. Members include M. Atwood, Atwood’s Bakery. Full Article.  

 

Jindal, Moret Send EPA Letter on Greenhouse-Gas Regulations

Gov. Jindal & LED Secretary Moret recently sent letters to the EPA, urging it not to go through with a proposal to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions by a change in administrative policy. Full Article.
