Site Selection  magazine announced its 2010 Competitiveness Awards, which recognizes state-level economic development group excellence. Site Selection ranked Louisiana Economic Development the No. 1 state economic development agency in the country. “Smart Business Growth” forum to highlight how small businesses can gain access to capital

LA Economic Development will host a "Smart Business Growth: Access to Capital" Forum on Wednesday, March 23, at the Lindy C. Boggs International Conference Center at UNO in New Orleans. This forum is open to small business owners interested in learning about trends in venture financing, types of businesses receiving funding, loan financing and requirements, and technologies and strategies attracting investors. LED Highlights 2010 Economic Successes

LA’s Economic Development Dept. recently released a report detailing selected economic highlights for 2010. LED Secretary Stephen Moret: "Since Gov. Bobby Jindal took office in early 2008, LA's economy has outperformed the South and U.S…LA's job performance was better than that of any other Southern state, and employment levels in Louisiana have grown faster than the South and the U.S. since the end of the national recession.”  Full article.

 

LED to host Business Incentives Workshop October 26 in Baton Rouge

Louisiana Economic Development is scheduled to host a free business incentives workshop on Oct. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Workshops are open to business owners, certified public accountants, bankers and potential business owners interested in learning how to take advantage of the state's financial incentives provided through LED. Workshop participants will find out about program rules and application processes for: Enterprise Zone, Industrial Tax Exemption, Research and Development, Restoration Tax Abatement, Small Business Loan Guaranty, Technology Commercialization and Quality Jobs. Moret Announces Blue Ocean Study Results

In a speech to the Baton Rouge Rotary club, Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Stephen Moret described the results of his Department's Blue Ocean Industry study. The Baton Rouge Business Report quotes Moret as saying that a major issue for economic development is the state's reliance on industries where growth is not projected.
